Product Care Guideline

How to care for your Products?

Use your products appropriately to ensure reliable service and durability. Handwash or dishwasher your items regularly after every use. Use a mild dishwashing detergent to clean the items thoroughly. Don't use abrasive cleaner or scrubbers like steel wool to clean your products. After washing, wipe dry with a soft cloth and store in moisture-free cabinets.

Stainless does not "rust" as you think of regular steel rusting with a red oxide on the surface that flakes off. If you see red rust it is probably due to some iron particles that have contaminated the surface of the stainless steel and it is these iron particles that are rusting. Look at the source of the rusting and see if you can remove it from the surface.

The first number is the amount of chromium that is contained in the stainless and the second number is the amount of nickel; So, 18/8 means that this stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Similarly, 18/10 contains 18% chromium and 10% nickel. The higher the numbers the more corrosion resistant is the steel.

304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. 316 contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. The "moly" is added to help resist corrosion to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts).

There are several "types" of stainless steel. The 300 series (which contains nickel) is NOT magnetic. The 400 series (which just contains chromium and no nickel) is magnetic.

Stainless steel can be recycled 100%. That is all stainless steel can be re-melted to made a new stainless steel. The typical amount of recycled stainless steel "scrap" that is used to make new stainless steel is between 65 & 80%.

Handwash or dishwash your items regularly after every use. Use a mild dishwashing detergent to clean the items thoroughly. Don't use abrassive cleaner or scrubbers like steel wool to clean your products.

Ensure your products are dry before storing them in moisture-free cabinets. Cover the products with a cloth to prevent them from surrounding dust particles. Do not over stack products more that 15 inches in height.

In such case, buff the products with a high speed polishing machine using a soft ‘Airflow mop Flannel Wheel’ and standard Red Bar and Green Bar buffing polish compound, apply light pressure in ‘circular motion’. A sample of an appropriate Buff wheel can be requested from Skyra for reference.
